Web site accessibility standards
Digital accessibility of Web content is an increasingly important information technology issue. Today, the focus is not exclusively on communities with impairments who use the Internet daily. We also take the following into consideration:
- all members of the population, whether ageing or not, who have different needs;
- obsolete IT infrastructure with equipment that requires special attention.
Web site
The Office de la protection du consommateur Web site conforms to the Web site accessibility standards of Québec government (SGQRI 008-01). Compliance audits were conducted by the solidarity cooperative AccessibilitéWeb in February 2012, June 2012, and June 2013. The Office has made the necessary changes to conform to the recommendations included in these audits.
The next compliance audit will cover the access to our Web site forms. If you have difficulty filling out any of our forms, you can use our assistance services.
Downloadable documents and multimedia documents
Downloadable documents and multimedia documents conform to the transitional measures provided by the downloadable documents accessibility standards (SGQRI 008-02) and the multimedia documents accessibility standards for Web sites (SGQRI 008-03). Some downloadable or multimedia files published before the introduction of these standards may fail to meet the new requirements.
Improvement efforts of the Office Web site
Actions to make a site accessible are counted daily. While maintaining the level of accessibility during the evolution and development of the site and other associated products, the Office de la protection du consommateur plans to evaluate its broadcasting rules by:
- systematic reflection on the format take any content posted on the Web site;
- the adoption in 2013-2014, a procedure to make PDF documents and media available at the time of their creation or shortly after they appear online.
For more information about these standards, see the Secrétariat du Conseil du trésor (in French only).
